our STORY

Ice Cream. It’s always just been there. Everywhere you go. Supermarkets. The beach. The amusement park. A boardwalk. A musical truck. A neighborhood shop. A small European city on a hill. A boat in the floating market in Thailand. A cart in a neighborhood park in Buenos Aires. Throughout our entire lives, there has always been ice cream.

And we know what to expect from ice cream. Cold. Sweet. Smooth. Vanilla. Chocolate. Coffee. A cone, or a cup. Sprinkles. Hot fudge, if you’re feeling like a splurge.

It’s either good, or it’s REALLY good. If you’re lucky, it’s memorable. And you’ll daydream about that one flavor, that one time, that one place, that blissful experience you dream of returning to…

But you can’t because you’re in the middle of a global pandemic and you’re stuck at home with your kids and balancing distance learning and working from home and navigating the arrows in the grocery store and monitoring toilet paper inventory and figuring out Zoom and making sure you remembered your mask and tracking down disinfecting wipes, and finding a show to binge and why the heck is there even a coin shortage, and vacation is canceled and, and, and…we just need an escape. We need that bliss…

And that’s when Lindsay’s Handmade ice cream was born. It was April of 2020. It was the goat cheese ice cream she’d had a few years before at a little typical New Englandy fried seafood and ice cream shop somewhere in Maine she can’t remember the name of. That flavor…that BLISS that was so completely unexpected from combining goat cheese and ice cream…that is what she was after. So she made some goat cheese ice cream. And then she made more. And she kept making it until it was perfect. Ahhhh, there it is, that flavor…that feeling. The escape was in the process of creating. So she decided to make more. She made ice cream out of things just to see if she could. The fennel in the fridge drawer, before it shriveled up. Holy crap, fennel ice cream? YES, FENNEL ice cream. Orange and honey and saffron. Tiramisu. Donuts. Strawberries and rhubarb. Jalapenos. Sweet Corn. Rosemary and blueberry. Fresh mint from a friend’s garden. Summer’s bounty all turned into ice cream. It also turned into a business.

So, here we are. We meaning me, Lindsay. Bringing handmade small batch ice cream made with the freshest natural ingredients available, local whenever possible. Now you can have a gourmet ice cream shop experience at home..no circling for parking, no lines, no trying to wipe off your kids face, hands, shirt, while simultaneously saving the drips from running down the cone onto their shorts, legs, shoes while trying to hold your own melting cone in the blazing sun (can you tell I’ve been there?).

I hope you enjoy our ice cream as much as I love making it.
